The Executive Committee

NUPSA is run by an Executive Committee consisting of postgraduate students.

NUPSA EXECUTIVE 2010.

2010 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Current Executive Committee members are:

PRESIDENT
Name: Alan Murray
Area of Study: Computer Engineering

Alan completed his Engineering and Computer Science undergraduate degrees at Newcastle in 2005 and has since been working to complete his PhD in Computer Engineering. Whilst being technically minded, he has a strong interest in University Governance especially with regard to research and postgraduate advocacy. In his (somewhat limited!) free time he enjoys playing tennis, swimming at the beach and socialising with friends over a good cup of coffee or nice glass of wine. As 2010 President, he is keen to help improve the standard of postgraduate education here at the University of Newcastle, especially during this time of significant change in both postgraduate numbers and campus geography.

VICE-PRESIDENT
Name: Kanishk Kumar
Area of Study: Business Administration/Marketing

Kanishk completed his Bachelor in Business Administration in India in 2007 and then, jumped into the corporate world. Soon, he realised the importance of further studies and therefore, came to University of Newcastle for MBA and Master of Marketing in 2009. Apart from being a person with sharp business acumen, he has a strong interest in University's Governance especially with regard to satellite campuses and Postgraduate teaching and learning experience. Having worked with NUPSA as a General Executive Member and as Campus Representative (Callaghan Satellite) and now as Vice-President Kanishk is keen to enhance the level of teaching and learning at the University by working closely with the students and the administration. He is also a Postgraduate Student Member at the Academic Senate and Faculty Board (Business and Law).

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT REP
Name: Min Chen
Area of Study: Environmental Engineering

Min got her Bachelor of Science in Wuhan University, China in 2008, and then she came here to further her study as a RHD student in Environmental Engineering.
Min started a club affiliated under NUPSA last year and it has been running it quite well. Joining NUPSA as the International Student Rep this year, she would like to try her best to help international postgraduate students who are unhappy with something on campus. Min is also assisting promote soil clubs and organise activities/events for international students to lead to a better study life in Australia.

EQUITY OFFICER
Name: Nicholas Batt
Area of Study: Electrical Engineering

Nick is a research student in Electrical Engineering, working on electric machines and wind energy. He completed his combined Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Arts at Newcastle University in 2007. This is his second year of research and as a member of NUPSA executive. He currently holds the office of Equity Officer.

Name: Amelia Leotta
Area of Study: Psychology

Amelia completed her Bachelor of Psychology at Newcastle University in 2007, and is now doing a PhD. Having experienced many of the ups and downs of being a RHD student, she is keen to make sure that any issues students are having are heard by the University.

Name: Sahar Doroodgar

Sahar finished her Bachelor in Agricultural Engineering by the year 2008 and now doing her Masters of Business Administration at the University of Newcastle. Sahar joined NUPSA in her second trimester to get more experiences about Australian communities and university, and also to be useful to improve the educational environment for recent students.

CAMPUS REP (Callaghan Satellite)

Name: Amir Dizaji
Area of Study: Business Administration

Amir completed his undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering in Iran in 2008 and has been doing MBA and Master of Applied Finance in University of Newcastle ever since. He is interested in soccer, tennis, movies (but not scary ones!) and socialising with people. Helping to improve standards in postgraduate education especially in city campus was the main reason that attracted Amir to be a part of NUPSA.

CAMPUS REP (Ourimbah)
Name: Carlos Bohorquez
Area of Study: Marine Science

Carlos - is a new member of the NUPSA Committee as Ourimbah campus representative. Carlos is a Marine Science PhD student in second year conducting a Caulerpa taxifolia genetic and morphology study. He is a mature student coming back again into the academic arena. There is many staff that can improve our performance in the University and NUPSA would be an organization to also can help to achieve better results supporting the most genuine interest of the postgraduate students.

Name: Irene Munro
Area of Study: Human Physiology

Irene is part of a team of very committed and caring postgraduate students which forms the NUPSA Committee. For two years she has been the Education Officer (Research) on NUPSA and the student representative on the University Research Committee. Now in the final year of her PhD, she likes to use her experiences to help other postgraduate students resolve issues that are standing in the way of them progressing with their work.

General Members
Name: Shahab Hemmati
Area of Study: Business Administration

Shahab has been graduated in Industrial Engineering in 2005 and has worked for about four years as a salesperson in a chemical company in Iran. Besides, he was as a Training Expert of head office and voluntarily participated in IT Department and also in implementation of Balance Scorecard project as part of company’s strategic plan. He was a member in four committees in that project as: Knowledge Management, Motivation, Suggestions system and Training Committees. Then he furthered his education toward master degree in Master of Business Administration in Newcastle University in August 2009. He joined to NUPSA as an associate member in May 2010 and became an Executive member in June 2010 to contribute his experiences to improve postgraduates’ students’ environment in different fields and issues. He likes traveling, swimming, gym and sharing enjoyable time with his friends.

Name: Paula Tangpukdee
Area of Study: Nursing

Paula got her Master of Pediatric Nursing from Khon Kaen University, Thailand in 2006, and then she came here to further her study as a PHD student in School of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Health, The University of Newcastle since 2007 She also joins school of Nursing RHD committee as the International Student Rep this year.
Paula started the RHD Nursing and Midwifery Postgraduate Social Club affiliated under NUPSA this year and it has been running it quite well. Paula aims to improve the educational environment for recent students particularly for RHD.
